Under the Same Stars

John Dolan Russell: "We all agree this is a favorite. Both in the studio and live. I wrote the lyrics at Juanita Beach on a bright and sunny day, I was in a good mood but there was a lingering sadness in me. Marc was key in bringing this song together and Art's guitar work is some of the best he's ever recorded."

We float on the ocean we fly on the breeze
Untethered together in times such as these
We're wrapped up awhile in skin with a smile
And broken beneath the pressure from miles
I tried to be useful you tried to be true
The smoke in the mirrors reflect me to you
Under the same stars breathing the same air
Our house burning down neither one of us there

We try the new lovers get under the covers
Slipping away from the cruel words above us
The children are laughing forget what they're lacking
The animals purring and slithering nourished
I sit in the sun soaking park looking for you
Your desk and the rest of your pride still surrounds you
Under the same stars and breathing the same air
Our lives upside down can we fondly remember?

We climb in the mountains we bathe in the fountains
Another world waiting embracing and counting
The strangers we seek just to find one another
The lovers we take and hide under the covers
I tried to be useful you tried to be me
The shadow won out with a monstrosity
Under the same moon our wolves are both walking
Longing for days of our laughter and talking

We sit in the old chairs we try on the new stares
Our pride is the guidance which weakens our pair
The childhood lost and forgotten the ground
The common misshaping we'd never have found
I long for the moment when you were so real
You slipped through my fingers and dug in a heel
Under the same stars eroded by rain
Down in the bone yard I'll see you again
